Diaz began creating custom orders in 2014 after friends asked her to replicate the looks she created for herself. Her business quickly launched when she found herself placing dozens of orders within her first year after her customers shared the looks she created for them in social media and the images went viral.
“My mission is to make women feel fabulous from the time they set up an appointment with me through the event they need the look for,” says Diaz. “At Haus of Shea, we provide impeccable service to all of our clients. When you come to our showroom, we make you feel at home the minute you step in the door. Not only can we create a unique look that suits you, we also help with all of your needs to complete your look from head-to-toe the same way we work with celebrities. Like a celebrity stylist, we provide creative direction of hair styles and shoe options, and even an in-house makeup artist on site upon request. We want our customers to be red carpet ready. At Haus of Shea we aim for that Hollywood feel so our customers are as fabulous as the celebrities we work with and those they admire,” adding, “The end result always makes them feel sexy, bold and powerful. Who doesn’t want to inject a bit of fantasy into their everyday lives?”
Diaz has always had a passion for fashion. The self-taught designer began her career working in retail for Tommy Hilfiger and later honed her skills dressing television stars as a wardrobe assistant on BET Network’s now defunct teen music video show, “106 and Park.” There, she began creating custom looks for the show’s female hosts after they often asked Diaz about outfits she created for herself and wore to work.
Since that stint, Diaz would eventually create custom designs for R&B singer Fantasia, the winner of the third season of Fox hit reality television series “American Idol.”And reality stars Laura Govan of VH1’s “Basketball Wives” and Tanisha Thomas from WeTV’s hit reality show, “Bad Girls Club”. Also, MTV’s “Run’s House” star JoJo Simmons has requested a custom design for his wife as well as “Love & Hip-Hop New York” star Hennessy, the sister of chart-topping rapper Cardi B. She requested a unique dress for her appearance on the show’s 2016 “Love & Hip-Hop New York Reunion” special. Shades of Shea has garnered press on FashionBombDaily, BallerAlert, ShadeRoom and a bride-to-be wore two of her looks exclusively for a fashion spread on Blackbride.com. Even Beyonce’s longtime stylist Ty Hunter called Shades Of Shea the “hottest collection of the night” he looked forward to seeing at a fashion show he hosted in New York City this year.
With the expansion this year of two new labels, Haus of Shea will remain the over-the-top fashion brand where customers can place orders for a look that turns them into overnight social stars.
